Beacon Lane Trail at Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver, B.C.

recommended by Matt from California

- from downtown Vancouver, cross the Lion's Gate Bridge (enjoy the view!) and take Marine Drive west. Make a left turn onto Beacon Lane

- Beacon Lane will take you right into the parking lot, which features picnic tables, restrooms (I don't know if they are accessible or not), and handy maps of all the trails at Lighthouse Park

- the park is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily

- Beacon Lane Trail is packed dirt the whole way, and is a little less than a mile through some beautiful forest

- The upper viewpoint of the lighthouse is unfortunately not accessible, but you can easily make it to the lower viewpoint near the keeper's house (area is open to the public until dusk)

- the trip back will involve somewhat steep hills, might be a challenge for self-propelled wheelchair hikers. However, there are places to stop off and rest along the trail.

- if you're staying in the Vancouver area, Matt heartily recommends staying at the Lighthouse Park Bed & Breakfast, right near the park! More info available at www.lighthouseretreat.com
