Welcome to Great Wheelchair Accessible Hikes.com!

My name is Chris, and I'm a hiker and high school student from California. I created this website in July, 2008 to share information with other hikers about great, not just fair, wheelchair accessible hikes. To me, a great hike includes the following things: a hard surface such as pavement, cement, plank, packed dirt or gravel over a hard surface (not sand or deep gravel); free from ruts and rocks; wide enough for a wheelchair or scooter to pass through easily; minimal or gradual elevation change; and beautiful or interesting scenery.  The trails listed here are ones I or other contributors enjoy hiking over and over again. I put red asterisks next to trails that are my favorites.

Thank you to the hike contributors from around the world for sending in great acccessible trail information. There are now over 100 hikes in five countries listed here. Let's keep building the site together by sharing information on your favorite wheelchair accessible trails.  So please keep your recommendations and photos coming!  I will credit you for your referals.

Thanks to my friend Matt for his technical advice.

     Enjoy!

     Chris

In the midst of the complexities of modern life, with all its pressures, the spirit of man needs

to refresh itself by communion with unspoiled nature.

In such surroundings- occasional as our visits may be- we can achieve that kind of

physical and spiritual renewal that comes alone from the wonder of the natural world.
