North Lake Tahoe/Northstar Area:
"Fibreboard Freeway" snowmobile road (photos below)
This is a quiet road off the main highway. It's easy to overlook but definitely worth finding. I really enjoyed hiking through the beautiful woods, and my mom loved all of the wildflowers. This long road has various spots to pull off, so just take your pick and enjoy!
Directions:
- take 267 South from Northstar toward King's Beach
- right after passing lane and Brockway Summit sign, take right onto unmarked, paved road (brown gate at entrance)
Information:
- this is used as a snowmobile and cross-country ski trail during the winter
- during the non-snow season, it's used by hikers, joggers and bicyclists
- in regard to elevation change, some parts of the road are suitable for hiking and some are not
- parts of the road are narrow so drive carefully
- you can park off road to hike
- We drove approx 7 miles down to the Watson Lake sign, parked and hiked in that area-gradual elevation change. (Watson Lake shore area is not wheelchair accessible)
- this is part of the Northstar Trail System
- there are mosquitoes so bring bug repellent
