San Diego

MLK Promenade- downtown San Diego

- from the 5, exit at J and follow signs to Petco Park or Convention Center (on the waterfront)

- this is a great urban walkway which runs next to the trolly tracks on Harbor Drive across the street from the convention center

- walkway even takes you right through a really cool fountain- see photo below

- parking can be tricky- either limited street parking or parking lots which can be pricey

- no public restrooms on promenade

- note: I recommend checking out the Gaslamp District which is filled with fun restaurants and stores.  The district runs north on 5th Ave (from Harbor Dr.) for several blocks.  Two crazy restaurants I enjoyed (not the best food but fun atmosphere) are Dick's Last Resort and Fred's Mexican Cafe- both on 5th Ave.  *very limited wheelchair accessible seating at Fred's

Coronado Island

Coronado walk/bike path along Coronado Bay *

trail runs from Centennial Park/Ferry Landing to Tidelands Park, under the Coronado Bay Bridge and along Coronado Golf Course

directions- to get to the island, take the Coronado Bay Bridge/75 over to the island

- once on island, take first exit on right/Glorietta Blvd., you'll see Tidelands Park (you can park on street in this area on Mullinix or Glorietta Blvd)

- or from Glorietta Blvd, take left onto 2nd Street, take right onto Orange Ave to Centennial Park (can park in parking lot there)

a wide, paved trail used by walkers and bikers which has spectacular views of downtown San Diego and the Coronado Bay Bridge

- enjoy watching tons of boats while hiking along this path

- note: I suggest checking out the shopping district on Orange Avenue.  I totally recommend the Brownie Batter ice cream at Mootown Creamery on Orange.  Also recommended Island Pasta.
