Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone was the first U.S. national park.  Well worth a day's visit minimum!

 Old Faithful Geyser-

parking- very limited disabled parking; no disabled parking in lot in front of Old Faithful Hotel

two disabled spots in driveway right in front of hotel; follow sign to registration and look for spots on right just before going under portico (see photo below)

- we were told there are 4 disabled parking spots in the parking lot behind the hotel but we didn't check it out

 Geyser Hill Loop Trail/Old Faithful*

- really cool experience; I recommend this hike.

- very accessible, wide boardwalk circumscribing Old Faithful Geyser offers nice viewing area (see top left photo below)

- Old Faithful erupts approximately every 91 minutes and an eruption lasts 1 1/2 to 5 minutes

- the average height of the eruption is 130 feet and the temperature of the water just before eruption is 204 degrees Fahrenheit

- 1.3 mile trail weaves between lots of geisers and mudpots- *there is some slope to the boardwalk, pretty gradual though (see top right photo below)

- trail is mostly boardwalk but some parts are paved; some cracks in pavement July 2010

- a new Old Faithful Visitor Education Center will open August 25, 2010

- information 307-344-2750

- park accessibility guide available at park entrances

- I recommend the main dining room at Old Faithful Inn.  nice lunch menu and the room is very accessible with lots of space between tables and a ramp into the room.
